“For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”
Citizen’s Press is an online magazine that was birthed out of a desire to encourage saints on their journey toward the Celestial City. The Bible continuously describes life as momentary. With this truth in mind James asks his readers, “What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a time and then vanishes” (James 4:14). Apart from Christ this is a most horrifying condition. But as saints we know that because of Christ’s purchase on the cross we are now heirs and adopted children of the Father (Romans 8: 16-17). This gospel truth radically transforms people into pilgrims. Although we can only see dimly through the pages of Scripture, we know that this unseen reality is more to be desired than any transient pleasures this side of eternity. As Jonathan Edwards famously penned, “To go to heaven fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here.”
Sadly, although the promises in scripture are more absolute than anything we cling to on earth, we tend to relegate them to a mere afterthought. We, at Citizen’s Press, believe that a right view of God and a right understanding of His word affects all of daily living. It is our eager hope and prayer that this magazine will serve you, our readers, by providing articles and resources that can be used by God to both encourage you and strengthen you as you advance on your journey toward your eternal home.
O, God of wonder, God of might,
Grant us some elevated sight,
Of endless days. And let us see
The joy of what is yet to be.
And may your future make us free,
And guard us by the hope that we,
Through grace on lands that you restore,
Are justified forevermore.
